National Arts Council’s Urban Arts Zone at YOUTHx Festival 2019

Client: National Arts Council, National Youth Council

The largest youth festival in Singapore, YOUTHx (formally SHINE) brings young people in the fields of music, urban art, e-sports, dance and fitness together for a weekend of activities.

Our four-person team was commissioned by the National Arts Council to curate, design and manage the Noise Urban Arts Zone.

We entered with the concept of “Something For Your Mind”, which speaks about the point of preoccupation, where one is engulfed by the passion to experience and birth new artistic concepts into the world. Pioneers in the urban art scene such as Slac Satu, Studio Moonchild, DPLMT Collective and SPAZ from RSCLS Collective demonstrated different facets of urban art, allowing passers-by and art enthusiasts to engage and participate. The artists were briefed to use UV paints to bring out the different colours and perspectives of their artwork in the day and night.

As the night falls, music and visual duo O$P$ brought their unique flavour of Singaporean grunge with original music productions, along with curated visual projections.

Spatial design included modular furniture and wheelbarrows for festival-goers to sit, relax and enjoy the art pieces.

Involvement: Conceptualising, Marketing, Operations and Logistics Management, Artist Liaison, Execution
